Overview of Water Plant Automation System

To solve the problem of drinking water safety, many places have established small water plants, which concentrate on supplying water to some villages and towns. The automation system of water plants is an important part of water plant construction. The following is a brief introduction to this part.


Centralized water supply form

Each region determines the form of water supply based on its own water resources and terrain, mainly including the following:


1. Direct well water supply: Each village and town shall drill one or more deep wells to directly supply water to the village and town through the pipeline network.


2. Take groundwater from one or more water source wells, enter small water plants, add chlorine, enter clean water tanks, and then supply water to different villages and towns through several sets of booster pumps; Some small water plants have high clear water tanks, which can supply water to different villages and towns through self flow.


3. One or more water intake pumping stations take surface water, which enters small water plants and is treated by processes such as adding chemicals and chlorine before entering the clean water tank. Then, several sets of booster pumps are used to supply water to different villages and towns; Some small water plants have high clear water tanks, which can supply water to different villages and towns through self flow.


Automation solutions for water plants

Taking the second form of water supply as an example, introduce the automation system of water plants. Multiple water source wells are used to extract groundwater, and the raw water enters a small water plant, where it is chlorinated and enters a clean water tank. Then, several sets of booster pumps are used to supply water to different villages and towns.


Overall design plan

◆ Install water source well monitoring equipment in the water source well room.

◆ Install flow monitoring terminals at the inlet of the water plant.

◆ Install chlorination equipment for remote measurement and water quality monitoring terminals in the chlorination room of the water plant.

◆ Install remote measurement and control terminals for the booster pump station in the booster pump room of the water plant.

◆ Install distribution monitoring terminals in the low-voltage distribution room of the water plant.

◆ Install industrial computers, computers, projectors, printers, etc. in the duty room of the water plant. Install monitoring system software.

◆ The flow monitoring terminal, remote measurement and control of chlorination equipment, water quality monitoring terminal, remote measurement and control terminal of booster pump station, and industrial control computer in the duty room are communicated through LAN wired communication; The monitoring equipment of the water source well and the industrial control computer in the duty room adopt GPRS wireless communication mode (supporting fiber optic communication mode).

◆ In the future, water plants need to monitor the flow of various water consuming units using GPRS wireless communication.

Main functions of water plant automation system  

◆ The system can monitor the working status of the water pump in the water source well in real-time, including current, voltage, electrical energy, pump switch status, protection status, outlet pressure, and outlet flow rate. It is possible to remotely start and stop the water pump in the water source well.

◆ The system can monitor real-time information such as incoming flow rate, outgoing flow rate, outgoing pressure, water level in the water tank, and residual chlorine.

◆ The system can monitor the working status, chlorination speed, and automatic/remote control of the chlorination machine in real-time.

◆ The system can monitor the working status of the booster pump in real-time, including switch status, protection status, voltage, current, frequency, etc.

◆ The system can automatically and remotely control the start and stop of the booster pump. Automatically adjust the water pump speed based on the outlet pressure.

◆ The system can monitor real-time distribution station information, including switch status, current, voltage, electrical energy, etc.
